Meet Our Therapists

Michele Figuereo, MA, LPC

Licensed Professional Counselor

Despite life’s complications, I personally believe that individuals are resilient and possess innate qualities necessary to improve their own situations with the appropriate support and resources. I also believe that each individual is a complex and holistic being. This view directly guides my approach to therapy as I focus on mind, body, and spirit with an emphasis on trauma-informed methods.  Trauma, in its various forms, has the potential to alter our view of ourselves, others, and the world, in unhealthy ways.  We can begin to live out of mindsets that are restrictive and, therefore, impede growth and restrict our ability to fully experience the positive things in our lives.  Counseling can be very helpful in undoing these negative effects and restoring a core understanding of self. I find great fulfillment in helping clients to gain a better understanding of who they are at their core as well as how past events and circumstances have affected them in order to move towards genuine healing.

One of the most important aspects of therapy that I am committed to is creating a safe space for all individuals. Therefore, I operate from a very open-minded standpoint and I am accustomed to addressing issues relevant amongst diverse populations.  Past professional and educational experiences have afforded me a wealth of knowledge and understanding in areas of concern to diverse populations. I have had the privilege of working with individuals of various ethnicities, faiths and spiritual orientations, gender identities, and sexual orientations.  All are appreciated for their unique backgrounds and personal qualities and all are welcome!

In addition to using a holistic therapeutic approach to counseling, Michele Figuereo is also trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). Michele uses this technique to guide clients into healing from past traumas or injurious events that currently present as anxiety, depression, PTSD, and other mental health disorders.

Katie Sexton, MSW, LMSW

Licensed Master Social Worker

I like to use a strengths-based cognitive behavioral approach to help children, adolescents, and young adults unlock their potential. I have worked as a school social worker, supporting students with a variety of needs, and have knowledge of special education supports.

I enjoy helping young people work through the circumstances that life brings and transitions that can be difficult to navigate.

I have had extensive training in working with students on the Autism spectrum, LGBTQ+ persons, and using trauma-informed practices. I am also an advocate for teaching children mindfulness practices to ground themselves in the present moment. I have helped many young people manage anxiety and depression, including how to use functional coping skills.
